Independence Square (Dataran Merdaka), KL

This is the public space that marks the centre of the city (like Trafalgar Square of London, Tiananmen Square of Beijing or Red Square o Moscow). It's also a good space to provide a nice vista for the heritages buildings across the street.

From here, you can see the 3 KL important landmarks of Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Petronas Twin Towers, and KL Tower. The modern part of the city lies just behind the Islamic building.

Lining behind he square is an ensemble of buildings that made up the Royal Selangor Club. It's a social club, and has close association with the sport of cricket (just like the Padang in Singapore).

From the stripes that looking like the buildings are being strapped in strings, gift wrapped and ready for Xmas, you know they're in Mock Tudor style.

Well, mockery is the most sincere form of flattery.

Behind the Royal Selangor Club are the city libraries.

This champagne building, erected in my fave art-deco architectural style, is the Children Library.

Located between the Square and KL City Gallery is the tallest flagpole in Malaysia. Not far from the flag pole is the Victoria Fountain.

On a casual and fleeting glance, especially if you're a Yank, flag of Malaysia looks like Stars and Stripes. It's actually Star, Crescent Moon and Stripes (better known officially as "Stripes of Glory").

Below the Square is a shopping mall named Dataran Undrgrnd. I went there to answer an emergency nature's call.

Nice, quiet, clean spacious place for lunch (or meditation, if that's your thing)

On the other end of the square is a little garden. I went there for a rest before heading to the next destination.

I'm no bird watcher. So i'm guessing that this is probably either a finch or a sparrow.
